I'm a self taught game dev based in Chicago IL. Like many, I grew up and fell in love with video games
in my youth, but, as I grow older, the artistry and engineering required to craft these experiences
continues to hold my attention.
I enjoy designing fun interactive systems as well as working on 3D models and animations.

Space defender
A fast paced bullet hell shooter. This project was designed around using only the mouse and a single input with an emphasis on good feeling movement. The enemies and powerups were then built and tuned around the movement system. https://captainripley.itch.io/spacedefector

A variety of enemy types and power ups were added to keep difficulty varying throughout. The enemy movement patterns and shooting patterns are also designed with random variation in mind so even two identical enemies move and shoot differently from one another.
The forsaken flame
Developed with a group of four, this action puzzle game was designed around a single mechanic inspired by god of war. The player can throw and recall their flaming sword to fight and solve puzzles.

Puzzles were designed around wrinkles within the main mechanic. For example, since the sword needed to be able to pass through objects to return to the player, a puzzle would require the player to understand how the sword interacts with the world to figure out the solution. This was used to both teach the player more about their magic sword, how it can be used to interact with the world, and give players that satisfying "Ah-ha!" moment.
The hallowed woods
This is and adventure game with a focus on narrative. The moment to moment gameplay focus on exploration, simple combat, and atmosphere. The world design took a metroidvania like inpiration with the player needing to return to areas after unlocking new abilites. These new abilities would give the player new and interesting movement and combat options. The focus on narrative gives the player an added incentive to keep playing.
